What is dry needling?

Dry Needling is a treatment performed by specially trained clinician like a physical therapist to address specific muscle pain and restrictions.

Musculoskeletal pain usially presents as trigger points or “knots’ in the muscle. This increased collection of muscle is a cluster of myosin in the musle fiber resulting in poor contractile control and cramping. Some other presentation includes referral patterns across large muscle groups or dermatomal nerve pain or radiculopathy.

Is it different from accupuncture?

Yes, Dry needling is focused based off of anatomical structures like muscles, fascia, tendons, and joints. So for example, if you are suffering from hip pain the therapist would look to address something like your gluteals, quads, and hamstrings. Whereas an acupuncturist would focus on a structure in the ear for Hip F pressure point. The only similarity of dry needling and and acupuncture is that the same no gauge needle can be used.
